SCHOOL HONG KONG 2014

 

 

What happened

 

On 6th January 2014, ThinkYoung hosted the 2nd edition of the Entrepreneurship Winter School in Hong Kong.

A total of 55 participants took part, coming from both Europe and Asia, making also this edition of the School a great success.

 

 

 

 

The Entrepreneurship Summer School was hosted at the University of Hong Kong, the most prestigious university in the country. Our list of speakers was filled with successful entrepreneurs such as Ronald Arculli (Senior Partner of King & Wood Mallesons) and Luigi Tiziano Peccenini (Founder and Honorary President of Wall Street Institute International and Wall Street English China).

 

 

 

 

One of the most memorable activities during the week of the Entrepreneurship Summer School in Hong Kong was the visit to Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen, providing them with an example on how to enlarge their horizons and to see growth of innovation.

 

 

The Hon Ronald Arculli,

GBM, CVO, GBS, OBE, JP

 

Mr Ronald Arculli is the Senior Partner of King & Wood Mallesons, the Hong Kong Office of one of the largest law firms in Mainland China and Australia.

He chairs the Board of FWD Group (the insurance arm of Pacific Century Group), Hong Kong Arts Festival Society Limited, the Honorary Advisory Committee of SVHK Foundation Limited and Common Purpose Charitable Foundation Limited, Hong Kong.

He is also a Director of Asia Art Archive Limited and a Trustee and Director of IFRS Foundation. He is a Board Member of The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and chairs its Executive Committee and Development Committee.

He is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Hang Lung Properties Limited and SCMP Group Limited.

He is a Non-Executive Director of HKR International Limited, Power Assets Holdings Limited, Hutchison Harbour Ring Limited, Sino Hotels (Holdings) Limited, Sino Land Company Limited and Tsim Sha Tsui Properties Limited (all listed in Hong Kong).

Mr Arculli has a long and distinguished record of public service. He was a Non-Official Member (November 2005 – June 2012) and later appointed as Convenor of the Non-Official Members (December 2011- June 2012) of the Executive Council of the HKSAR Government. He was a former member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (1988-2000).

He was the former Chairman of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (2006-2012) and The Hong Kong Jockey Club (2002-2006).

He was also the former Chairman (2010-2012) and Board Member (2008-2012) of The World Federation of Exchanges.In 2000, he succeeded HRH the Duke of Edinburgh as Chairman of The International Award Association, a youth development programme present in some 100 countries – a position he held until November 2007.

He has served on many commissions and boards including the Board of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Board of Governors of the London Business School.In 2005, the City University of Hong Kong conferred on Mr Arculli an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Social Sciences.

In 2010, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology conferred on him an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws.

Mr Arculli was called to the English and Hong Kong Bars and is currently a solicitor in England and Wales and in Hong Kong.

Luigi Tiziano Peccenini

Founder and Honorary President of Wall Street Institute International 

 

Born to a modest family in Ferrara, Italy, “Pecce” as he is known to most, started his career at the age of 19 as a sales agent. He created his first company, a computer training company called Computex, at the age of 28. He sold Computex in 1972 and founded Wall Street Institute in Italy.

In 2000, Pecce opened the first Wall Street English centre in China. Today, both companies are owned by Pearson PLC, London.

Wall Street Institute International is the world leader in the English language business, with more than 450 Centers in 27 Countries and over two million students trained. Wall Street English is the market leader in China, with 70 centres in the major cities and over hundred thousand students trained.

Elaine Ann

Founder of Kaizor Innovation

 

Elaine has helped Startups steer their products in right direction and strategized User Experiences so investors will bite and users will rave about.

She currently runs a strategic innovation consultancy Kaizor Innovation since 2002 with clients such as HP, P&G, Hyatt, BMWDesignWorks, Herman Miller, OSIM, HK Post Office, Lunar Design, Design Continuum, Ziba Design etc. and also have a new startup CZearch.com that is a visual market intelligence platform that allows Western companies to remotely research into China.

Andrea Gerosa

Founder of ThinkYoung and Entrepreneur

 

Andrea is the founder of ThinkYoung, the first European think tank made by young people for young people in Brussels.

He is also the founder of a Swiss based real estate firm that operates investments and advisory. Previously, Andrea worked as an associate consultant for the Oracle Corporation in Spain. While studying business administration at Bocconi University in Milan, Andrea worked for four years in the European Confideration of Junior Enterprises (JADE), starting off at the consultancy firm JEME Bocconi in 2002, elected President of JADE Italia in 2003 and European President of Jade in 2005.

Martin Kessler

CEO and Founder of Phonejoy

 

Martin is the CEO and Founder behind Phonejoy, a Hong Kong startup that has launched an innovative gaming device that transforms smartphones into portable game consoles. In late 2011, Martin moved to Hong Kong after working in China for nearly two years to start up Phonejoy with a loan of just US$20,000 to build his venture.

Since then Phonejoy has raised a total of more than US$750,000 and grown to a team of nine from all over the world.

Kay Ross

Founder and Boss of Kay Ross Marketing

 

Kay Ross is a marketing consultant, editor and copywriter – her company is Kay Ross Marketing.

She helps her clients to devise effective marketing/branding strategies and to craft and tell compelling stories.

Kay is also a former Listings Editor at the “South China Morning Post” newspaper, so she knows what journalists want.

And she performs with local English-language improv troupe People’s Liberation Improv (they make stuff up on the spot, without a script), leads corporate workshops about how to apply the principles and mindset of improvisation to life and business, and is a member of the international Applied Improvisation Network.

Kay was born in Scotland, grew up in Australia, and has lived in Hong Kong for 20 years.

Yat Siu

Founder & CEO, Outblaze

 

Yat Siu is a serial technology entrepreneur based in Hong Kong.

He is founder and CEO of Outblaze, a digital services company specializing in gaming, cloud technology, and smartphone/tablet software development. In 2009 Yat sold Outblaze’s messaging division to IBM and successfully pivoted Outblaze from B2B messaging services to B2C digital entertainment. He is a director for TurnOut Ventures, a partnership between Outblaze and Turner Entertainment, and he is co-founder of Animoca, a major developer and publisher of smartphone games. In 2012 he set up ThinkBlaze, the research arm of Outblaze dedicated to investigating socially meaningful issues related to technology. Yat has earned numerous accolades including Global Leader of Tomorrow at the World Economic Forum, and Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the DHL/SCMP Awards.

He is a supporter of various NGOs and serves on the board of directors for the Asian Youth Orchestra.

Tin Hang Liu

Founder of SEOLAB and Cityfan

 

Tin Hang Liu is the founder of SEOLAB (SocialMedia division), an italian company with top clients like the Benetton Group Worldwide, Fox, Kimberly Clark and CEO/founder of Cityfun, a startup company that focuses on reviews of local business in partnership with the biggest media group in Italy, Gruppo Editoriale L’Espresso.

Previously, he was the director of Italchina, an international company concerned with mergers & acquisitions, consultancy and corporate management.

Here he worked with top clients such as: The Cagiva Group and Giugiaro Design. He is also a teacher at IULM University where he lectures about Social Media Marketing and Online Strategies for students at a Master Level.
